The Sugar Hill Impact at Castlegate Townhomes

God is good!  The Sugar Hill Impact at Castlegate Townhomes was a huge success.  The Sunday before, we had twenty-five adults and children at our team training and prayer walk.  Everyone was trained to use the EvangeCube, and team members had two options: face painting or party planning.  After the team training, we all went and prayer-walked the event site. Children immediately approached us when we showed up for the prayer walk, yet we were able to pray and put out our signs announcing the block party the following week. We continued to pray for the event, especially for good weather, since the forecast was a sixty percent chance of rain all week.  It stopped raining on the day of our first block party, and we had perfect weather.

Impact Sugar Hill was the first time many on the team had ever stepped on the mission field and the first time some had ever witnessed before. Parents and children worked together with the same purpose: to share the love of Christ with this community. The teenagers and children on the team put into practice what they learned in the team training and shared the gospel using the EvangeCube.  It was exciting to see the youth engaged in witnessing as they led several to Christ.  Everyone who participated encountered God using them.  At our debriefing, we all agreed that we want to make sure that everyone is followed up with, and every attempt will be made to help these new believers grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus. The seeds for future ministry and a heart for missions and witnessing were firmly planted in this group’s hearts.

The seeds for salvation were planted in the hearts of over fifty people.  Blanca and her husband don’t speak English, so one of the two interpreters translated as I shared the gospel with her.  I asked her how she knew she would get into heaven, and her response was, “God is always with me, and I haven’t done anything bad.” This is a common response, and we shared the gospel with her, emphasizing that we have all sinned and that salvation is not something we earn or deserve by living a good life.  It will take several times hearing the truth for her to understand God’s way of salvation, which is Christ alone. I didn’t press for a decision, as I sensed she wasn’t ready to admit she was a sinner in need of accepting Christ and His payment for her sin. Pray for Blanca and her husband, who gave a similar response to one of our other team members who shared the gospel with him.

Altogether, one hundred people showed up for the party, and twelve accepted Christ.  Just like the rain nourishes the earth, Isaiah states, “So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; it will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it” Isaiah 55:11-12. As we continue to work in God’s harvest field, His word will impact lives for eternity. Your sacrificial giving and prayerful support are key components to keeping this ministry on the field, so please pray about how God would have you participate in reaching these neighborhoods.
